What is CBE Certification?

CBE certification is the process by which the National Consortium of Breast Centers validates, based upon predetermined standards, a licensed breast health professional’s knowledge in the performance of a clinical breast examination.  The purpose is to assure the public that the certified licensed breast health care provider has completed the NCBC CBE Certification Program and has met minimum knowledge and performance standards by recognizing the individual who has met these standards.  This certification is a validation of an individual’s performance of a Clinical Breast Examination, their Core Knowledge and their Tactile Skills in lump detection.  Candidates who pass the CBEC™ may use the mark CBEC™ to verify they have met all eligibility and testing requirements.  This may be used only while valid, after which time certification may be renewed.

Certification is achieved when a score of 85% or better is attained on all three components of the examination, and the certified individual is allowed to use the CBEC credential.   Those certified will be issued a CBE certification pin and will be listed on the NCBC website.  Certificates of program completion will be awarded to those individuals unable to pass all three components of the examination.
